      When compared to other Mediterranean-climate regions (all of which are recognized as biodiversity hotspots) (Myers et al. ), for a given area, the Cape Mediterranean-climate ecosystems support times the diversity of southwestern Australia, times the diversity of California and the Mediterranean Basin, and times the diversity of.       Albania is a small country in Southern, Southeastern Europe and Western Balkans strategically positioned on the Adriatic and Ionian Sea inside the Mediterranean Sea, with a coastline of about km ( mi). It is bounded by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, North Macedonia to the east and Greece to the southeast and south. This large volume draws on evidence from fieldwork, historical records, archaeology, pollen analysis and recent research in discussing the ecology of Mediterranean Europe from the past to the present day.
